![]() The Genesis machine drops a lot of seeds because it is meant for wild game anima feed plots, not maximum yield but maximum coverage (I've never figured that one out, I plant my feed plots just like I would any field or garden). I want something that can drill in buckwheat, oats, and peas seeds at 3-5 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Unfortunately it looks like it drop seed at a low rate for cash crops like corn, beans, and peas. To take a step back, is there any engineering reason by a single-row no-till drill wouldn't work? I understand the scale and marketing reasons to sell to large-scale commercial growers, but is there some limiting factor that would prevent a scaled-down version of the same design? How much down-force are the tractor hydraulics providing? It looks like the Hoss standalone seeder ( ) slices a trench with its opening wheels and it sure doesn't weigh much. But they must be dumping a lot of seed in that trench - aren't the soybeans coming up too crowded in the Genesis video? Is there a reason why the tractor-scale seeders can use a much heavier seeding rate than the single-seed garden planters? I see they all use 7.5" row spacing, which would work fine for me. Is there an auger-and-paddle system to control the spill rate? It's not lifting and dropping individual seeds like a Hoss or Earthway does. I can't tell from the video how it meters out the seed. Thanks for the link to the Genesis drill. Most of them are two pokes to a hole, the first makes the hole the second drops the seed then, behind the "wheel" is a small plow to cover the hole with soil and then a wheel passes over to tamp the soil tight to the seed. I've seen several different configurations for pulling behind a 4 wheeler and all look like they would work great. ![]() Most of this type of tool is sized for large tractors and those start at around 6K and go up to over 10K.īy the way, a seed drill does exactly that, it drills (pokes) a hole and deposits a seed then a wheel covers and presses down the soil. If you want a no till seed drill that is sized to a 4 wheeler, those are out there on the market RTP outdoors It would be great if I could find something that would attach to a single-wheel walk-behind hoe like a Hoss - but with coulters to open and close the furrow after dropping in the seed.Īlso something that can be adapted to single-row or multi-row seeding just by closing off the plate between the hopper and the paddle wheel.īryant RedHawk wrote:There really isn't a no till seed drill that is hand powered (for that the Hoss is your best bet). I haven't seen a no-till drill up close, but it looks like they have a large hopper for seed, and a wheel-driven paddle that does a "controlled spill" of seed into the furrow. Some of them have optional opening wheel / closing wheels, but most just have a simple shank (which will tangle residue) and a drag chain. Most of the garden seeders (Earthway, Jang, Hoss) are based on a series of plates with holes drilled to pickup and drop a single seed at a time. So a wide range of seed sizes and shapes.ĭirect-seeded "cash crops" are carrots and parsnips, corn and beans. My cover crop seed will be oats and winter peas to winter-kill, plus buckwheat in the summer, and white clover in the walkways. I'm realizing that I will need to plant into a lot of residue and uneven ground. I am converting my 3,000 square foot garden from bare tilled soil to continuous no-till with cover crops. Are there small-scale tools that work like a no-till drill that the mega row-crops farmers have? Something for market gardeners or large-scale home gardeners? The result is a series of mad scrambles that thoroughly test your ability to communicate under increasingly heavy layers of pressure. Also, you can fall into bottomless chasms. Then parts of the levels start moving around. Then you need to wash the dirty plates before anything else can go out. Conceptually, this is simple: you merely have to grab the correct ingredients from the kitchen, cook or chop them as needed, put everything together, then send the dish off. Overcooked! 2 situates you and up to three partners as chefs tasked with preparing many different meals. In any case, people have been bonding over rounds of Mario Kart for nearly three decades, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe gives them no reason to stop. It's also possible (if not ideal) to play in split-screen using one set of Joy-Con controllers. On top of all that, there are genuinely useful accessibility features for kart-racing newbies, including a "smart steering" assist that helps keep you from smashing into guardrails. (Except you, Metal Mario, you weirdo.) By this point, Nintendo has solved the science required to make driving a video game kart at high speeds as smooth as possible. The same goes for the cast of Nintendo characters, who are as expressive and lovable as ever. Every track is stuffed with enough personality to make simply driving around and looking at the scenery a joy. The layouts are diverse enough to keep each race from feeling too similar. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is an iteration at its core, but its selection of courses is among the series' most charming. The blue shell remains one of gaming's most fearsome equalizers. Those who put more into it will see their skills rewarded, but the threat of that patented Mario Kart "BS" is always lurking around the corner, eager to level the playing field. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a 4-year-old upgrade for a 7-year-old Wii U game, but it's Nintendo's best-selling Switch title for a reason: it's inviting to players of all experience levels, both in how it plays and how it presents itself. And because it's broken up into clearly defined levels, Luigi's Mansion 3 is a game you can drop and revisit at your leisure. Everything about the game looks gorgeous, like a playable Pixar movie. Barreling into a room with your "Poltergust" vacuums and sucking up everything in sight is both silly and consistently satisfying. ![]() But even compared to other Nintendo games, this is a game with character, from Luigi's adorable looks of terror to the distinct designs of each hotel floor and ghost boss you meet. Luigi's Mansion 3 as a whole has issues: aiming your ghost-sucking vacuum can be frustratingly imprecise, and there are some tedious sequences that force you to backtrack through previously conquered levels for little added benefit. The game isn't particularly difficult, and because Gooigi is an essential part of solving many of the game's puzzles, your partner won't feel like a mere accessory while you do all the work. This gives them the freedom to fool around and die repeatedly without forcing you both to restart levels and boss fights. If your partner isn't well-versed in typical game mechanics, they can control "Gooigi," a Luigi clone made of green goo that has a lower health pool but infinite lives. ![]() Its two-player mode isn't available until an hour or so into the story, but at that point the rest of the game becomes one of the most accessible co-op campaigns in recent memory. It happens spontaneously from the underlying dynamics in the molten iron core of the planet. There has been 183 reversals in the past 83 million years. It takes an estimated 2000 to 12000 years to complete a full reversal. The magnetic north and south pole actually changes places. It is a natural phenomenon that scientists call geomagnetic reversal and it changes the plante's magnetic field. ![]() Therefore it is sometimes necessary to rename runways and give them a new number. That changes the magnetic directions that the runways get their name after. That is because the plante's magnetic lines are slowly drifting. Sometimes airports need to change the numbers of their runways. Runway Names Change With the Earth's Magnetic Field In other words, Runway 04L becomes 22R when used in the opposite direction and 04R becomes 22L. The result is two parallel runways clearly named: Runway 04L/22R and Runway 04R/22L. So this direction would also feature the L and R letters. When facing the runways from the 220 degrees bearing we still have to distinguish between left and right. That gives us two separately named runways: 04L and 04R.Īnd because pilots can use the runways in both directions, we add 18 (from 180 degrees) to the 04 and arrive at 22. When facing (or approaching) the runways from the 40 degrees bearing, we therefore distinguish between left and right. Confusing for pilots and ATC and potentially dangerous. But if the naming system stopped there, Copenhagen Airport would have two runways with the same name, Runway 04. This translates to the number 04 for both. Let's Illustrate That With an ExampleĬopenhagen Airport operates two runways with the same direction of 40 degrees. This is done to distinguish between them and avoid duplicate names. Two parallel runways with the letters L and R for Left and Right. It designates the relative position of each parallel runway when approaching (or facing) its direction. We call these parallel runways and each runway is then named either Left, Center or Right with the letters L, C and R respectively. What about the airports that have more than one runway in the same direction? The two numbers always differ by 180 degree or 18 in the runway number system. Using the example with the runway 27, the other direction would be at 90 degree pointing east and named 09. Simply by designating a number to each direction separately. How does the runway numbering system deal with this? ![]() If a plane takes off this runway it will be heading west.īut runways are usually not one-direction and planes can take off and land in both directions. A runway with the number 27 means that it is heading at 270 degrees. Finally, the last digit is trimmed away.Īs a result of this rather logical runway numbering system, we can give a runway any number between 01 and 36. The number on the runway is determined by what direction it is oriented and the number is rounded to the closest 10 degrees. Runways are given numbers on the basis of their orientation in relation to a compass bearing (also called the magnetic azimuth). ![]() ![]() Michelin used it to develop and manufacture military aircraft which they did back then. In 1916, during World War 1, the first concrete-paved runway was built in France. Except in North America where they use feet. The length of a runway is usually given in meters. Runways are typically made of asphalt, concrete or a mix of these. A Delta Air Lines Bombardier CRJ-700 during landing at John F. But sometimes a runway is made on natural surfaces like dirt, grass, ice or salt. Typically a runway is made of asphalt, concrete or a mix of both. What Is a Runway?Ī runway is a defined rectangular land area designed for takeoffs and landings of aircraft. Let's start simple and explore what a runway is. There is a clear and logical system behind those big white runway numbers. But for others it could seem as a mystery how airport runways are numbered or named. For professional pilots and aviation experts it might be obvious. |
